AI Use Policy

Effective Date: September 12, 2026

Artificial intelligence (AI) is part of how we work at Signals&. We use AI to support research, exploration, analysis, creative development, workflows, and the development and refinement of our work. Our guiding principle is simple: AI can accelerate the work. It cannot own the thinking.

How We Use AI

Signals& may use AI-enabled tools for research and synthesis, brainstorming, analysis, scenario exploration, drafting and editing, creative development, workflow support, meeting documentation, and other activities that help us work more effectively. The role AI plays varies by project and task. AI-generated output is an input to our process. It is not automatically finished Signals& work.

What Remains Human

Our clients hire us for judgment, and that responsibility remains with us. Signals& retains responsibility for defining and reframing problems, interpreting context, determining which signals matter, making strategic recommendations, providing client counsel, and approving work delivered or published under our name.

Some judgment is non-delegable, particularly when work carries meaningful strategic, reputational, organizational, or stakeholder consequences. We evaluate AI-assisted work through four dimensions of intellectual provenance:

  • Origin: What knowledge, experience, evidence, observation, or context informed the work?
  • Judgment: Where was meaningful human interpretation and decision-making applied?
  • Verification: How were material claims, assumptions, and conclusions tested?
  • Accountability: Who understands the reasoning and is prepared to stand behind the result?

AI can participate throughout the process. Meaningful ownership of Signals& work remains human.

Verification & Accuracy

We do not treat AI-generated claims, statistics, quotations, citations, sources, or conclusions as verified evidence. Material information used in our work is reviewed and verified as appropriate to its purpose and consequence. We do not knowingly deliver raw, unreviewed AI output as professional counsel or completed strategic work.

Client Information & Confidentiality

Client trust and confidentiality come before efficiency. We use judgment about what information is appropriate to process through AI-enabled tools and will not knowingly use confidential, proprietary, personally sensitive, legally protected, or otherwise restricted information in ways that conflict with our agreements, applicable requirements, or reasonable client expectations.

If a client's AI, confidentiality, privacy, or information-security requirements are more restrictive than our own practices, those requirements govern the work.

Meetings & AI-Enabled Tools

Signals& may use AI-enabled meeting assistants, transcription tools, and similar technologies to support documentation, continuity, follow-up, and alignment. When a tool records, transcribes, or otherwise captures a client interaction, its use should be transparent and appropriate to the conversation.

Information captured through these tools remains subject to the same confidentiality and information-handling principles that apply to other client information. Clients may ask questions about the technology being used or request an alternative approach when appropriate.

Voice, Authorship & Representation

AI may help us develop or refine communications intended to represent Signals&, a client, an executive, or an organization. The underlying perspective should remain grounded in what that person or organization actually believes, knows, has experienced, and is prepared to stand behind.

We do not knowingly use AI to fabricate experience, expertise, evidence, stakeholder sentiment, quotations, or conviction and present it as authentic. The same standard applies to our own work. AI may participate in developing and refining Signals& content. The observations, frameworks, positions, interpretations, and final editorial judgment published under our name remain ours.

Disclosure

We do not automatically disclose every use of AI. Our standard is materiality.  When disclosure is appropriate, we aim to explain the role AI played rather than simply state that AI was used. We disclose AI use when its role would materially change a reasonable person's understanding of the authorship, expertise, evidence, experience, identity, or judgment represented by the work; when disclosure is required by a client, publisher, platform, contract, law, or applicable policy; or when failing to disclose its role would create a misleading impression about how the work was created.

Accountability

Signals& remains accountable for the work we deliver, the recommendations we make, the counsel we provide, and the positions we publish. Use of AI does not reduce that responsibility. If we cannot explain the reasoning behind a recommendation, defend the judgment applied to it, or identify what information could change our conclusion, the work is not ready to carry our name.

AI technology, regulations, professional standards, and client expectations will continue to evolve. We will update this policy and our practices as appropriate. AI can accelerate the work. It cannot own the thinking.
